I tend to agree with you to a point but then I remember this guy who was trying to sell me health insurance a couple of years ago. He kept referring to me as a girl and then, for some unfathomable reason, called me by a diminutive form of my name a few times. (For instance, if my name was Sue he called me Susie.) I couldn’t believe he did that. Talk about patronizing! I told him that and made him go away with the suggestion that he show a little respect if he wanted to sell policies to WOMEN.
Yes that would piss me off certainly and I’ve had those experiences. I think it’s obvious when it’s derogatory.
But I say ALL THE TIME, “The girls and I are going to lunch.” “What are the girls doing?”
And I need to stop it because I think it pisses people off. Old habits and all, you know…
