re: #131 Bubblehead II

I will have to respectfully disagree with you on this then. I personally believe that women who have the ability, will, and training, to compete with men, should be given the chance to do so . They will either succeed or fail based upon their abilities, not their (arbitrarily assigned) sex.

re: #135 klys (maker of Silmarils)

There’s an awful lot of Olympic records that suggest otherwise.

A quick check of Track and Field World Records confirms this. The record 100 meter time for women is 10.49 seconds. It was set in 1988, and no woman has turned in a faster time since. That time had been surpassed by 1921 in the mens’ competition, and the record now stands at 9.58 seconds.

In the 2012 Olympics, all 23 semifinalists in the Mens’ 100 Meters was under 10.31, with the winning time being 9.63. The fastest woman in history would not have been able to compete with the slowest of the semifinalists.

So, yeah, it’s great to say they should be allowed to compete, but if we did away with the two classes, in most sports there would never be a woman on the podium, and most of the female athletes we celebrate today would be far down in the ‘also rans’.
