I’m not trying to discount anyone’s fears but a lot of the ‘well, they will be coming after white folks too’ feels really similar to the same kind of decentering tactics people of color and other marginalized groups have to constantly battle against to get the kind of anti-racist literacy and attention that is required to fight against this system that is literally built on white supremacy. Intersectionality certainly comes into play, almost in reverse, in that there will be areas of intersection that will put other folks at risk too (there are white folks in prison too but…), but it’s important to be very clear-eyed about the totality of the system, it’s history and aims. To discount the white supremacist aspect of this is to whitewash the evolution of this country and how it still operates today. I’ve always seen the definition of who is white expand, not contract in this country.
