I think the problem a lot of us have was highlighted up above: We’ve been fighting what seems to be a losing war since 2017. (Key phrase: seems to be. We’re still here to fight it, which means we aren’t losing yet.) Fighting is grueling work; I don’t know about you, but to me, every day since about 2019 has felt like a roller-coaster day where you have no idea, when it starts, if things are going to well or poorly, and it’s all things that are outside your direct control. And all you can do to fight it is scream into the void and hope your voice, combined with others’, is enough to convince other people to do the right thing. I miss the innocence of the teenage years; despite having all the wrong ideas of how the world worked, I lived in relative ignorance of what daily news was affecting me.
