The BLM has screwed with a lot of people over land and water use. After my uncle had most of the kinks worked out of a geo-thermal power system he developed on land he owned they tried to charge him for use of it. They were still in court when he passed away.

Did your uncle have mineral rights listed in his deed, or did he just have surface rights? Because geothermal resources are treated as mineral rights in federal law.
