For those who didn’t get my Yubaba reference, she is a central character (antagonist) in the Japanese story (and wonderful animated feature) Spirited Away.

She has lots of magical toys, including pens that write themselves, etc.

Her most important role in the story though is in changing the major protagonist’s name, taking away most of the kanji characters leaving a single syllable. By changing the name, Yubaba also takes away the protagonist’s memory of her name. Only when the protagonist can remember her name will she be able to escape the clutches Yubaba.

/Perhaps my cultural references are a bit, um…. specialized?
