Stories are already out about attempts to hack planes in midair. Believe me TP, this is a smart play by DoD. It sends the message, “we won’t get blindsided this time” and it further reassures the public that their gold-plated warplane is going to be able to deal with future threats.

The ‘cool’ and ‘safety’ factors will overwhelm the critics, and Congress will happily put the cyber-warfare pod on the Government credit card.

What it tells me is that this bird has absolutely no growth potential. They’re trying to thread the needle of developing a cyberwarfare pod that doesn’t compromise its stealth, but which will mean compromising something else, whether it be speed, range, or maneuverability. All so they can get ahead of questions about its survivability amongst Congressmen who are already skeptical about the need for the program.
