For my eventual big move down the line I keep looking at small to midsize cities in the Northwest, like Eugene, Medford, Salem, Bend, Vancouver, Wenatchee, and Tacoma. I want city services in a relatively stable blue state near good hiking / fishing spots and on a budget compared to SoCal. Also, since I grew up around Seattle I can do with more rain and less heat.

Think Bend has been co-opted by the wealthy looking for second homes (thought there might be some decent neighborhoods….). Medford/Ashland has decent housing, though with forest fires taking up more and more of the summer, the air quality may take a beating during the warm parts of the year.
