Great post! Shall archive 4 future use/education of others. Two warnings and one nice-to-know follow.
2 definite warnings 4 all, esp. Twitter newbies
1. ALWAYS use HTTPS! Be sure check-off box is checked.
CuriousLurker (CL) shows U in above graphic that HTTPS is in the very last check-off box on the ACCOUNT tab, found on Account & Application Settings on the Twitter screen.
2. Beware of clicking on links from people you do not know.
Happened to me this week for the very 1st time. There was a Tweet in @Mention link from a stranger. I clicked on link & was linked to a nasty porn site. Why did I click? ‘Cause am politically involved, the Twitter avatar was of a normal looking female & I figured at worst the Tweet would be a possible rebuttal from a differing political view. Well, surprise! Do not click on links from strangers.
1 nice-to-know
Using Lists is very nice. As CL noted, lists can be public or private. I use both. Sometimes I may want 2 follow someone, but they may Tweet a lot and clog up my Twitter stream w/ too many Tweets, so I may start a topical list. I may put those w/ differing political viewpoints in a private list. And FYI, you can block peoples’ Tweets, but U still have ability to follow them on a list if you put them in your list.
