Pretty much. SXSW is such a cash cow here in Austin that they don’t want a single panel or event to overshadow everything else.

SXSW Interactive is literally Spring Break for tech nerds. Downtown Austin looks like Daytona Beach with loud party buses booming techno music, people getting drunk at 10am at various booths and lounges, and married people trying to figure out how to have random hookups without their infidelity ending up on Facebook or Instagram.

Then again, they usually have awesome keynote speeches and some killer concerts that week after the tech nerds leave. It’s not ALL bad. SXSW just wants to avoid something like Gamergate fucking up the party for everyone else.
