I used to wear bobby pins in my hair a lot and they definitely came in handy a number of times, in a number of different ways. Though, they wouldn’t be quite as effective a weapon as the hatpin.

I’m also thinking about hats again!

I’m a little late to the hatpin party, but I’d like to point out that for a hatpin to be anything but a decorative weapon, you need to have long hair that is worn “up” in some fashion so that the hatpin has something to go through other than your head.

Being a proper lady with long hair, I have used hatpins for their original purpose, though my longest pin was only a few inches long.
