Yes; Komen gave about $600k in the past year (maybe $700k a few years ago), but they’ve permanently damaged the brand. If they recant, they lose and anger the pro-lifers. They’ve lost support of pro-choicers, and have completely mismanaged this decision (setting aside the reason the decision needed to be made in the first place).
And who gets hurt by all this in the end? People who are hoping for a cure, and those women who might not get screenings that might otherwise uncover cancerous lumps at an early stage when they’re quite treatable. It’s a public health mess all the way around.
