I have to admit I was finally sold on metric when somebody explained that the way they measure precipitation, namely in liters per square meter, also tells us how deep the water would be, since one liter spread over a square meter would be one millimeter deep.

F*ing brilliant.

Saying that it rained 1/8” inch tells us nothing about the volume per square anything.
