Yemen has pretty much been a Saudi/Iranian proxy war for decades. And underlying Iran is a feudal theocracy that I’m pretty sure would want to roll things back to the 11th century if they could. Though they are not monolithic in that regards and the mullahs to a certain degree have to constantly watch the pot of their own citizenry to prevent it from boiling over.

I see a distinction between Medieval (as in the Iranian mullahs’ view of Islam) and feudal, (as in a ruling royal house). Remember that the US reinstated the Shah, who was feudal but actually western and progressive in many ways, one of the things that sparked such a medieval backlash in Iran.
