re: #111 Obdicut

Dude. This proclamation literally only recognizes the sacrifices of whites in Virginia during the Civil War. There is not actually any known record of a black man bearing arms in the Southern Army as a regular solider. Some blacks were in the army in support positions, and were not regular soldiers.

This proclamation recognizes soldiers, citizens, and leaders in Virginia during the Civil War. All of those positions exclude blacks.

This proclamation is only recognizing the sacrifice of whites during the Civil War.

That is so wrong it’s amazing.

THIS is why I’m not lifting a finger in defense of the South this time. Today’s posturing and dog whistling is inexplicably poor long term strategy for the GOP. It also shows Michael Steele’s weakness as a leader. A respected and effective chairman would have quashed this before it started.

I WANT to point out that the US flag is the flag of slavery more than the Confederate, having been a slave-holding nation for 85 years. I WANT to point out the North’s connivance and enthusiastic support for slavery in a dozen ways. I WANT to point out the political domination of Northern political and industrial interests putting the squeeze on 2/3 of my ancestors until they were backed into a corner and squeezed back…but I’ll wait. This nonsense in Virginia is not about history so much as riling up the Nirthers and other rabble.
