I don’t think this is right regarding the military: it’s much more about whether you’re in a military family or not. This has its own set of problems, of course. I think cops have a similar family thing, but the po-po is far more accessible to rightwing losers who just want to bust heads.

What is a military family, though, but parents who encourge their kids to join, or don’t see joining as an issue? That’s not really much different than any group deciding that being part of something is good or bad to be in the group.

To put it more bluntly, I think the Democratic party and progressives should do more to encourage people to join the military or the police. They are both necessary to a functioning society, and they both need to have competent peole in them.
