When I arrived in Madison, WI, in 1966, someone stole my license plate in the first hour I was there. I only noticed it when I went to unpack the trunk. I’m pretty sure it was for the “exotic” plate (Louisiana) rather than for some identity switch. A cop happened to be right there on the block and I told him what had happened. He made a note of my complaint and wrote me out a citation for operating a vehicle without a license plate.

That’s fucked up.
