The other point I’d make is that many gun owners would consider themselves to be law abiding even when they violate the law by owning a particular kind of gun or magazine. They don’t shoot other people or use them in crimes, so they consider themselves law abiding.
Thus, the point that he was a law-abiding gun owner right up till he very suddenly stopped abiding by the law is apt.
And a lot of Americans consider too much law-abidin’ a Bad Thing. We are the children of convicts, bootleggers, pot-growers, firework smugglers and Methodists.
