In California, formerly a swing state, when their extremism started them losing elections, the repugs decided it was because they weren’t batshit enough and got more extreme. Thy’re still on that track, and haven’t won statewide office for lo these many years.

i can still kind of remember—i think one of Reagan’s elections—where the national map had California red as he cruised to victory. Probably the second one where he was stuffing Mondale into the electoral locker. Weird to see how demographics has turned what I think for years was a Republican state into a state that would probably cut off an arm before giving a Republican its electoral votes.
