I see your point. I think that with President Bush we had some (albeit limited) background based on this time as Governor of Texas. With President Obama, he was, for many a true unknown. As we tried to “get to know him”, we were confronted with things like Reverend Wright. I think the reason it was so important for then-candidate Obama was that we literally didn’t have a substantial record to review, or a pre-existing understanding of the man. In that regard, it was potentially significant. Though a majority of the voters didn’t mind.

I do think that when you are the President of the United States you have to handle things differently. I would agree with you there. President Bush is not above critique.
