This is the problem with proving murder, no? All the defense has to do is convince some jury member that Zimmerman wasn’t trying to kill Martin, simply that he was afraid of Martin and trying to defend himself.

It’s not even that. All the defense has to do with SYG laws in place is convince a judge that Zimmerman “reasonably believed” that he was in danger of grave bodily injury or even death. Showing a medical report listing injuries that are somewhat consistent with GZ’s story of events pretty much puts the prosecution in a pickle.
