Single parents are such an annoying scapegoat. Two of my great grandfathers raised children as single parents. Hell my one great grandfather never remarried even.

WTF, over. Historically, huge numbers of women died in childbirth. A parent, or both parents, could be killed by disease, infection, bad teeth, barbarism or wolves. Though I’ve yet to see any good historical data, I’d guess that the percentage of single parent households is about the same now as it ever was.
