My guess is that the Spanish were notified ahead of time by the Iranian Embassy that he was going to do this. And I expect that this is official policy of the Iranian regime. But yes, it is an disrespectful and boorish move. And qualifies as an official statement by the Iranian regime

Btw, the Spanish appear to have made no effort to protect him from this public embarrassment. So clearly they were out of fucks.

My husband, an Iranian-American, says he gets brownie points with the regime back home for doing that. They are also at war with women.
