Well yes, most of them aren’t going to enter beauty contests.

Yet eating disorders are no doubt highly influenced by the self-image comparisons made by young women, against their peers and those whose images are thrust constantly in front of them.

There are plenty of other causes of eating disorders too - such as clinical depression.

Yet I’m overwhelmed by the idea that the winner of a competition based on the most fleeting of characteristics - physical beauty - is going to try and help women who are obsessed (in an unhealthy way) with distorted self-images.
