What sort of cover do you expect to find in a classroom? I’ve been in modern classrooms, they don’t come with concrete barriers or sandbags. Depending on the teacher, the strongest cover you’re going to find is a heavy wood desk. And your intent is to stop the shooter because he can harm others, then you taking cover just means he’ll default to blasting your untrained, unarmed students.

Then he does that. You can’t save anyone when you’re dead, and if you stand there and try to draw a weapon, dead is exactly what you’ll be. Take cover, then save whom you can.
