He is a schismatic bishop. A schismatic bishop is not a Catholic bishop. He was ordained a bishop by the leader of the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X and was excommunicated for it. SSPX is a splinter group of the church.

I know it might be hard for non Catholics to understand given the Catholic churches’ arcane hierarchy and rules. But being called a schismatic bishop is like being called a pretend bishop.

He is not a RC Bishop.

The letter from the USCB calls him a schismatic bishop once and then refers to him as Bishop in several other sentences. While I do understand Williamson is a schismatic bishop, I think it’s disingenuous to say that non-Catholics find it hard to distinguish between bishops when the USCB itself can’t seem to make that distinction.
