I really think a lot of traditional media has discredited itself through their actions the past four years. I still do read the WaPo but I think a lot of MSM took the wrong message through the rise of digital and social media. It’s great to be able to spread the news quickly. But it’s also important to have facts straight. Too often I see people who see the quick access that we have to news and getting facts wrong. I still remember after the Boston Marathon bombing, Glenn Beck tried to say it was a Saudi student who it turned out had nothing to do with the plot of the Tsarnaev brothers. To a smaller extent, I repeatedly see friends and I include those I agree with here in posting stories that are easily not true or aren’t current events. I go out of my way while I think I know my politics are known to my friends not to make my social media full of hot takes on current events. The media needs to be aware of the responsibility they have in this age of instant news.

It’s not even about facts any more. Mainstream news media has demonstrated how invested they are in creating a narrative. How some selected facts become a dominating narrative for months while others are simply disappeared. Just like everything else in US culture, the inequalities are simply becoming more and more blatant as demographics shift away from white supremacy, and certain people are trying anything to maintain those inequalities.
