Actually, McDonald’s knew that the coffee cup was faulty.

It wasn’t necessarily an issue with the cups, but rather the temperature at which McD’s corporate told their franchisees and corporate store managers to keep coffee at (at least 30-40 degrees above the industry recommendations). Coffee was kept at damn near boiling…that’s what got McD’s nailed, and deservedly so.
