Are we so sure about that? Trump can (at least I think so) take refuge behind the State/Federal “firewall” and basically ignore any State investigations as long as he’s President. I can imagine the WH response to, say, a subpoena from the NY AG - for either records or personal appearance - would be to first, dump it in the nearest bin, and secondly, say “see you in court”. And then, create (AFAICT) an entirely new legal/constitutional crisis over the relative “immunity” of a sitting President: one which might take months/years to resolve (if ever), and then, might not get as “favorable” a ruling from SCOTUS as we might like.

Unexplored territory, to be sure, but not unexpected when “we” elected a shady-verging-on-crooked businessman like Donald Trump to the Presidency.
