do not recall the article or where it was published, but the jist of it was that those who do not understand what it really means to be a man are the ones who cling to the established external symbols that society associates with “manhood” and throw a fit when someone or something varies from them.

it went on to make the connection that those who really do not understand what it means to be a true patriot and love one’s country are the ones who cling to the trappings of nationalsm and pseudopatriotism and throw fits over people who fail to wear a flag lapel, etc…
