I’m hopeful that it will be easier with him in jail, where hopefully they can help keep him on his meds.

Our next door neighbor was schizophrenic. One morning she showed up on our doorstep naked. Mrs. FBW called 911, they came and got her and put her under observation, got her back on her meds.

The next day they released her. They couldn’t legally keep her, since she was no longer ‘a danger to herself and others’.

You can’t force people to stay on their meds, outside of an institution. And you can’t institutionalize people who aren’t dangerous.

Another Catch 22.
