Legends are so interesting in that way.

I’m not the reincarnation of Joseph Campbell (that and he was alive at the same time I was, but you never saw us in the same room together), but as best as I can tell, legends, whether secular or religious, are designed to make “our team look good and the other teams bad.”

How will the Chicago Cubs ever get along with their legendary slogan “the lovable losers?”

George Washington did not cut down a cherry tree then admit it. That anecdote has no evidence to support it, but it makes “our team” feel good (our first president was honest).

Legendary stories pop up about just about everything.
