“It is inherently phony” isn’t an answer, Spare. And all you really did was accuse yourself of tautology— if roleplaing is inherently phony, then ‘phony roleplaying’ is a pleonasm.

Gay people are people. They play a role, they have an outer face, like all of us do. But yes, there’s a lot more obsession with those ‘roles’ than there are with heterosexual roles, in general, since gay people are the ‘other’.

It’s kind of like the ‘why do they have to be public with their sexuality?’ stuff, while all around us, on every billboard and on every commercial, heterosexual activity is plastered.

“Gay people are people” is a tautology and “they play a role” goes without saying. Such defensive platitudes may be appropriate in response to an attack on gays, but that is clearly not what I was doing.
Role playing is indeed inherently phony, for the reason I stated.
Can you explain your need to nit-pick?
