I do agree with you that some media re regulation is needed.
I do not think that we are bereft of good commercial educational programming. The continued government funded inclusion of great scientifically accurate programming aimed at various age groups was not going to stop Ancients and Aliens or other tabloid level breathless crap.

Add all the PBS programming you want. Someone will still run Ancients and Aliens on some other channel or streaming service. It might get far higher ratings and attract more similar shows.
