These days, they couldn’t muster a Resistance if they tried; and they wouldn’t try, anyway.

The famous French Resistance was in the high hundreds before the liberation and in the hundreds of thousands after the liberation. Similarly it is a little known fact that so many Germans were keeping a Jew in the basement that there was a critical shortage of Jews in Germany during the War. The government had to meet this popular demand by going out to find and import Jews to satisfy the millions of kind hearted citizens.
