I approve of this more than praying for rain, because:

It’s actually a long standing Muslim tradition. Animals have to be slaughtered correctly in any case and doing so at home is not uncommon in many areas.

It can also be done for any celebratory or symbolic reason, such as buying a new car, then having a barbecue and party, and some meat will likely be given away as well.
