Well, it’s good in the sense that he’ll get convicted…maybe…because of that language. Unless he gets the Joe Horn treatment.

However, I dislike the larger trend in which SYG muddies the ground on what’s justifiable homicide. This shooting falls in with a bunch of others in terms of armed individuals “misunderstanding” their right to exercise lethal force. That they sometimes get convicted doesn’t change that there are dead and maimed people. In this case, the dead guy was a middle school teacher whose music was too loud.

Well, given the language SYG may not be operational, as the judge could say his ‘looking for trouble’ obviates any claim of self-defense. In such a situation, he would not be allowed to mount an SYG defense at all.
