Early in the pandemic there was talk about not needing to live in high priced areas anymore, due to working from home or tele-commuting. I don’t think much of that has materialized so far. Maybe a but further out.

There are home in this area which are inexpensive relative to places like San Francisco (even one in my town which I’m considering buying for my mother if I can get her to move out of Chicago because I can’t support her there).

That said, part of the problem with “moving someplace cheap to work from home” also includes “no Internet or cell service” in large parts of the nation.
