Certainly not confined to the United States — but we seem particularly gullible when money is involved. At least those conned by Madoff were wowed by his widely held reputation as a brilliant investor with real credentials.

Americans are raised to seek to extract cash from other people to advance themselves. We’re so capitalist that there are now Shark Tank classes at the high school I attended.
