No, it wouldn’t. If it were that bad, cars and trucks would be knocked offline as well. Major cities would see mass die-offs under that scenario. Most of us here would be dead within three months.

If it were really really strong, it could blow the atmosphere off the planet, vaporize the oceans, and melt the crust of the Earth to a mile deep.

But, it probably will just make pretty lights at the poles.
