It’s more like System Administration 101. Know where your system’s endpoints are.

MAC addresses, not IP addresses would allow you to ID a specific device with at least a degree of accuracy and even then, a MAC address can be spoofed

I have over 2,000 computers that don’t even really exist, who all have a computer-generated MAC address. I can change their MACs anytime I want.
