I liked the idea of having a black president, for obvious reasons, but I wouldn’t have voted for him just for that, and I supported Hillary with no sense that I was missing out on a chance for racial unity, until she went down. And I considered McCain until Palin turned out to be horrible. I just don’t recall being told that if we elected Obama, we were going to go all post-racial overnight, and all the racial issues would go away. If I was told that, I laughed and forgot about it immediately.
The ideas as I saw it was the fact Obama won indicated we are closer to post racial than ever. I believe that. Even if largely offset with the backlash amplified by a harsh recession.
