Even if they didn’t serve under fire, their actions in leading troops, formulating/executing battle plans, and saving America from Nazis, Japanese, Confederates, whatever, certainly qualify definitionally and culturally as heroic.
I disagree…to me a hero is someone who disregards their own safety….possibly forfeit their own life for others…but I dilute the term once in a while myself…my mom built Liberators for three yeas but I don’t consider the effort heroic
