The thing that kind of limits Iron Dome’s long term usefulness is that even when it works every rocket shot down still represents a loss for Israel in terms of a financial war of attrition. It looks cool, is technologically badass and prevents casualties but was also only every going to be a temporary stopgap measure. In some ways it’s actually counterproductive for the user since it conveys a (false) sense of near invulnerability on Israel and again raises the disproportionate capabilities of the two sides to the foreground.

Since the option is to do what they did before Iron Dome, and allow people to die in the streets of Sderot, I think they’re going to take that chance.
