Converting the LGF code from PHP 5.6 to PHP 8 is … intense.
A real headache in particular: PHP 8 tightens up the rules for classes. Methods within classes have to be defined as ‘static’ in order to be called without instantiating a class. Previously all methods inside classes were treated as static by default.
This is the #1 cause of problems in the ancient PEAR components.
