Heck, Mandy..if any Lizard ever stops by my little chunk of flyover country, me and the Mrs. Will put away the spray cheese and break out the good stuff! You know, the Veveeta! :)

That’s a neat joke.

And then this past week I had to do a quick grocery store run to the little town ~9 miles away from where I was staying in southern Illinois. (Little population 200 place about 50 miles from Carbondale.)

Since bean dip was being made I mentioned seeing if I could find some fresh cilantro and/or parsley to go with the food being prepared. My friend simply said “Good luck with that” and let me make the trip. My expectations were not sky high for a local supermarket in a rural town, but the place was simple produce, meat, some fruit, and packaged everything else.

Culinary wasteland.

Made me realize how spoiled I am living on the coast with the huge diversity of ethnic food products, produce stores, and large supermarkets (between Trader Joe’s and Mega-Wegs* it seems possible to find almost anything.)

* - Nickname given to the monster Wegman’s stores.

P.S. - On this trip I’ve also discovered the source buyer’s of Budweiser’s awful Bud Light w/lime product.
