Trump is more visible, and would be a more dangerous enemy. Erik couldn’t do that much damage. The key to a “I’m Not With Stupid” moment is to pick a target to push off from who has some visibility but isn’t relatively powerful enough to really hurt you.

But in the same way Romney wouldn’t want to pick a fight with Limbaugh or Coulter, why pick one with Erickson? Not only is he a commentator on CNN, but RedState is, sadly, quite popular and especially influential with the far right Obama-hating crowd. And those are the very people with whom Romney has the least credibility.

Trump may be more visible, but he’s also far more disliked by the overall general public. If you’re gonna take his support, it makes no sense strategically (especially while primaries are still going on) to diss Erik.
