I remember reading Democratic Underground during the 2004 tsunami. A small but vehement contingent there insisted that Bush had detonated a “mini-nuke” under water, thus causing the tsunami, which he did because mumble mumble hey look a squirrel!

I can’t find the link, but someone with relevant knowledge calculated demonstrated mathematically that the amount of energy released in that earthquake was greater than the amount of energy that would be released if the entire world’s stockpile of nuclear weapons had been detonated. That particular conspiracy theory fizzled out after that.

Fair enough, but in this example a lunatic theory is presented then disproven (WITH SCIENCE!) after which it more-or-less disappears. That hasn’t happened here and we all know that it won’t. Were that the RWNJ echo chamber was also a Faraday Cage from which no broadcast could eminate.
