the irs does hire some very nice people
but they really dont know what they’re doing or understand the tax law except for the very straightforward basics
Wanted to comment on this since I have some knowledge about tax law and the IRS. The IRS has people who are involved in customer service, and they have cursory knowledge of the tax code, which involves more than 7000 sections and interactions between sections can get quite involved and complicated. Auditors have deep understanding of tax law and application to specific facts involved. They have other tax experts who are involved in writing publications and rulings. So, it can seem that not everyone at the IRS has deep understandings necessary to help for a given circumstance.
