Yeah, in and out was always the only US strategy that made sense in Afghanistan.

The problem is, we absolutely would have been back by now if that was the approach. After WWI we walked away from Europe and ended up back there within a generation. Same, arguably, in Iraq - if we wouldn’t have had to go in when we did, we probably would have had to go in when Saddam died and Uday and Qusay fought for power in order to prevent a regional war.

I don’t know, maybe y’all are right and there was no other answer…
